Francisca Salinas

Francisca was born on July 4th, 1932, in Patillas, Puerto Rico into a humble home. Raised primarily by her father, she came from modest beginnings, which shaped her strength, resilience and unwavering commitment to her family. Despite the challenges she faced, she built a life of purpose and dignity.

In pursuit of a better future for herself and her children, Francisca moved to New York City in 1965, where she courageously raised seven children on her own: Nereida Alvira, Jose Vega, Maria Vega, Selma Ortega-Vega, Gisela Vega, Louie Vega, and Miguel Velazquez. She instilled in the values she carried herself with, which were honor, dignity, respect, and love.

Her family was her world. As her children grew and began their own journeys in life, Francisca often felt the ache of their absence. Her heart was fullest when the entire family would occasionally come together under one roof- a joy that never faded with time. She was a devout Catholic for much of her life, and in her later years formed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ which led to her being born again of the Sprit.

Her legacy lives on through her 37 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-grandchildren. Her impact is immeasurable and will echo for many generations to come.

She will be sorely missed, deeply remembered, and forever loved by all who were blessed to know her, especially those who had the joy and honor of being with her in her final days.

**** Funeral services will begin at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT 06053, on Thursday, August 14th, 2025 with calling hours from 10:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by immediate burial at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Francisca Salinas to the Alzheimer’s Association, to support research, care and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Con profundo dolor y un amor eterno, anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra querida matriarca, Francisca Salinas, quien partió de esta vida en paz el lunes 4 de agosto de 2025, a la edad de 93 años.

Francisca nació el 4 de julio de 1932 en Patillas, Puerto Rico, en un hogar humilde. Criada principalmente por su padre, provenía de orígenes modestos, que forjaron su fortaleza, resiliencia y un compromiso inquebrantable con su familia. A pesar de los desafíos que enfrentó, construyó una vida con propósito y dignidad.

En busca de un futuro mejor para ella y sus hijos, Francisca se mudó a la ciudad de Nueva York en 1965, donde crío con valentía a siete hijos por su cuenta: Nereida Alvira, José Vega, María Vega, Selma Ortega-Vega, Gisela Vega, Louie Vega, y Miguel Velázquez. Les inculcó los valores con los que ella misma vivía: honor, dignidad, respeto, y amor.

Su familia era su mundo. A medida que sus hijos crecíeron y comenzaron sus propios caminos en la vida, Francisca sentía a menudo la tristeza de su ausencia. Su corazón estaba más pleno cuando, toda la familia, de vez en cuando, se reunía bajo un mismo techo; una alegría que nunca se desvaneció con el tiempo.

Fue una católica devota durante gran parte de su vida y, en sus últimos años, formó una relación personal con Jesucristo que la llevó a nacer de nuevo en el Espíritu.

Su legado perdura a través de sus 37 nietos, y numerosos bisnietos, y tataranietos. Su impacto es inconmensurable y resonará por muchas generaciones.

Sera profundamente extramada, recordada con cariño y eternamente amada por todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla, especialmente aquellos que tuvieron la alegría y el honor de estar con ella en sus últimos días.
