George E Root

George Edward Root, 79, of New Britain, Ct, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023 with his wife by his side. George was born on March 16, 1944, to Earl and Lydia (Margelot) Root in New Britain, Ct. After graduating from New Britain High School in 1963, he was drafted in the United States Army for 2 years. He later became a drill press operator at Pratt and Whitney in Southington, Ct. He later transferred to the Middletown location and enjoyed driving a truck between sites. He retired in 2006 after 40 years with the company. After retirement George spent countless hours with his four grandchildren, camping, fishing, splashing in the pool or at the beach. He loved nothing more than having his grandchildren by his side. His stories and "useless information" will be forever missed by his grandchildren. George was predeceased by his father and mother, Earl and Lydia (Margelot) Root, his brothers Earl Jr and Donald. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris of 55 years, his daughters and son in laws, Cynthia (Root) Hawley and Richard of Middletown, Ct and Alice (Root) Szczesniak and Adam of Granby Ct. He is also survived by his four grandchildren who were the loves of his life, Ian, Alexander and Sean Hawley of Middletown and Cayden Szczesniak of Granby. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care and attention George received from Ralda his 24 hour caregiver. We would also like to thank the countless Hospice nurses, social workers and clergy with Hartford Healthcare that gave amazing attention and care not only to George but his immediate family as well.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visitation hours, which will be held on Thursday July 20 from 4-7pm at New Britain Memorial-Sagarino Funeral Home in New Britain, Connecticut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Jerome's Church on Friday, July 21 at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain, Connecticut.
