Born in 1961 in Hartford, CT to first generation Polish immigrants Maksymilian and Teresa Klimas, Greg was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. He touched the lives of many with his good nature and positive attitude, sense of humor, generosity, humbleness, and zeal for life. Greg’s presence and warm nature were a comfort to many, as was his prudence and enviable coolness.
He attended St. Cyril and Methodius School (Hartford, CT), St. Thomas Seminary (Bloomfield, CT), and Embry Riddle University (Daytona Beach, FL). While living in Daytona, he met the love of his life and future wife of 36 years, Agnieszka (née Brodzik). Greg went on to work for General Electric, TRM, and the Department of Revenue Services where he was employed for 23 years in IT Support.
Greg adored his wife and constantly strived to be the best husband and father he could be, always putting his family before himself. He particularly cherished his annual trips with his family traveling to Poland and Cape Cod. Greg loved the beach and while vacationing with his wife and sons, embraced his inner beach bum. Going to the beach every morning and leaving in the late afternoon, he would lounge, read, go for a run, swim, and build unforgettable sand sculptures with trusty red shovel.
A caring and hardworking husband and father, Greg’s day was never finished when he came home from work. He was always passionate about improving his homestead. From home improvements to car repairs to home renovations, Greg knew how to do it all and freely gave his time and wisdom to family and friends. He involved his sons in all his projects, ensuring that some of his skills would be passed on.
At a young age Greg developed a passion for music which he carried throughout his life. He was a part of many bands and enjoyed gigging. In the moments he allowed himself to relax, he could be heard in the basement playing his bass guitar along to some of his favorite tracks. Along with music, Greg had a love for cooking. He would often craft gourmet meals for family and friends and valued the joy his cooking would bring to others.
Greg also was an avid fan of sports, playing baseball and soccer in his younger years. This love for the game was instilled in his son Oliver, who had a lengthy soccer career. Greg was immensely proud of Oliver and drove him to and cheered for him at countless practices and games. Greg cherished this time spent with Oliver, discussing the game, tactics,
strategies, high points, and areas of improvement. This continued later in his life, where Oliver and Greg would always watch NFL, FIFA, UEFA, and World Cup games together, discussing the games and enjoying each other’s company and sportsmanship.
Greg’s quiet but powerful devotion to faith and trust in God carried him throughout his life. He strived to be an example of a Catholic man for his family and sons and devoutly attended mass at Sacred Heart Church, where he was a parishioner for over 20 years.
His level headedness made him a bastion for his family, always offering life advice to his sons, and turning complex and difficult situations into straightforward goals and carving a path forward. He was the go-to for life advice for his sons, whom he was extremely proud of. He stated that his greatest accomplishment in life was his family and watching his sons grow into men.
Greg always knew how to have a good time and made sure all those around him were happy and enjoying life to the fullest. He was always reassuring others that no matter how tough life was, offer it to God and all will be okay.
Being the son of Polish immigrants, he was fiercely proud of his Polish heritage, while also loving the United States and all the values this country stands for. Greg valued independence, self-sufficiency, and love of country, values he passed on to his sons. His constant advice was to move to rural America, purchase land, and learn to live for yourself. Additionally, he was a proud member of the NRA and always loved family trips to the range.
Greg is survived by the love of his life, Agnieszka, his son Julian and his fiancé Daria Bednarczyk, his son Oliver, his sisters Eva Klimas and her husband Bruce Brdar and Maria Klimas and her husband Rob Morton, his father-in-law Konstanty Brodzik, brother-in-law Łukasz Brodzik and fiancé Ewelina Szymanowska, beloved cousins Mirosław and Teresa Szafranski, treasured nephews Arthur Szafranski and his wife Maria and Peter Szafranski and his wife Jennifer, and many other cousins and family members who all will forever cherish his memory.
