John “Jack” Moskus of Willington, Connecticut passed away on Sunday, June 29th 2025 at the age of 89. He was born on November 16th, 1935 in New Britain, Connecticut to Nellie and John Moskus. A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Jack served as a priest in many cities in Connecticut throughout his lifetime, largely in the greater Hartford area. Father Moskus prepared for the priesthood at St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield and Christ the King Seminary, St. Bonaventure, NY. Father Moskus was ordained on May 23, 1963, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Hartford, by the late Most Rev. Henry J. O’Brien, Archbishop of Hartford. Father Moskus served as an assistant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Washington Depot; Our Lady of the Assumption, Woodbridge; St. Gabriel, Windsor; Good Shepherd, Seymour; St. Michael, Beacon Falls; and St. Joseph Waterbury. Then he served as Pastor at St. Christopher, East Hartford; Chaplain at St. Mary Hospital, Waterbury; Pastor at Holy Trinity, Hartford; and Christ the Redeemer, Milford. Outside of his commitment to the Catholic Church, Jack was an avid fly fisherman, photographer and a dedicated window shopper. One of his prized possessions is a cowboy hat that he bought while visiting friends in Montana. He is survived by brother, James Moskus of Morgan Hill, California his wife Alice and their children Michael and Jacqueline, his sister Janet Kowalec of Bristol, Connecticut and her daughters Sharon and Jennifer, cousins Allen and Lester “Ed” Stolarun. Jack enjoyed loving relationships with his grandnephews Diego, Noah, Cody and Gabriel and grandnieces Sarah, Maggie and Ella. He enjoyed lasting friendships with people that he met in different parishes over the years including Elaine Koza, Doris Young and Mike Heiser ...and made many happy memories with them and all the staff at St. Joseph's Living Center.
Calling Hours will be held at Holy Cross Church on Monday, July 7th from 9AM to 10AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 7th at Holy Cross Church, 31 Biruta St., New Britain, at 10 AM by the Most Rev. Christopher J. Coyne, Archbishop of Hartford. Interment will be held immediately following the Mass at St. Mary Cemetery 1141 Stanley St. New Britain CT.
