José Maria Escales Aranda passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022, just 2 months shy of his 101st birthday. He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline, his granddaughter Aimée, grandson Scott, his wife Jenna, and great grandson Asher José. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Pilar, and his son José. He is also survived by a special niece, Elaine Anderson and several nieces and nephews both here and in Spain. In addition, he leaves his loving caregiver, Lydia Martinez Garcia and her husband Marco. José was born in Orba, Alicante, Spain on January 28, 1922 to Rosalina (Aranda) and José Escales. He was a hard worker at a very young age, from grinding the coffee for Bar Escales, to working in the orchards with his dad. Later as a truck driver he traveled all over Spain. José came to the United States at the age of 44 in search of better opportunities for his young family. Soon after arriving, he began working at Fafnir Bearing Company where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of the Spanish American Cultural Club where families gathered often to continue the celebrations of their heritage and share them with their own children. Playing guitar, hours-long card games and countless other events were weekly occurrences. This group of friends became family. José will be remembered for his unwavering strength and vitality. He was never afraid to get his hands dirty, always willing to learn new things, and make new friends. Visiting 5 Churches Brewery in New Britain and being treated like a celebrity was one of his favorite things to do on Saturdays. He loved to playfully tease, take trips to the casino, and share his favorite cognac with visitors. José was blessed to watch over his family for longer than most and he will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
