Josephine (Alverde) Bordonaro, 89, passed away peacefully on May 23,2019. Born in Derby, CT, she was a daughter of Jose and Etelvina (Bordas) Alverde from Santander, Spain and grew up in a loving family in New Britain with her sisters, Mary Louise Dolce, Ethel Ohanesian, and Anita Pawlow, who have predeceased her.
She lived most of her life in New Britain and was a member of St. Maurice Church, in New Britain; the Spanish American Cultural Club in New Britain; and Chippanee Country Club, in Bristol; and an active volunteer at her church, schools and in the community.
Josephine was married to her loving and devoted husband, Julius, of 64 years until his death in October 2015. She enjoyed helping him in his business “Julius the Jeweler” in New Britain. They developed many longtime loyal customers, of which many became close friends. Josephine enjoyed entertaining and socializing with family and friends, summers on Cape Cod and in Old Lyme, and traveling.
She is survived by three children: Deborah Partesano and husband Ezzio, of East Berlin, David Bordonaro and wife Donna, of Berlin, and Donna Valletta and husband Michael, of Newport, RI; and three grandchildren: Amy Collins and husband Jack, Mark Bordonaro and Matthew Valletta; and two beautiful great granddaughters: Lilly and Taylor Collins. She is also survived by her sister in law, Pasquelina (Pat) Cardella, of New Britain, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Josephine was blessed with a great life. She will always be remembered by family and friends as a loving wife, dedicated mother and grandmother and for her kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity.
Her family is fortunate for the time spent with her and grateful and appreciative for the wonderful staff at the Jerome Home who cared for Josephine.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St Maurice Church Parish of St. Katharine Drexel 100 Wightman Rd. New Britain, CT. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Arrangements are under directions of the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain.
