Today we bid farewell to our adored mother, Katherine Perun, affectionately known to her entire family as Babci. On September 22, 2020 our Babci was granted her angel wings. She was truly a strong woman arriving with her husband Stefan from her birthplace in Sudova Vyshnya, Ukraine and settling in New Britain in 1949. She devoted her life to family and church. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost who treasured her three children and embraced every moment with them. She loved her role as Babci to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a gentle soul and made friends wherever she went. Katherine and her husband Stefan were one of the original founding members of St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Britain. She remained active in the church until her health no longer permitted it. Mom was the first President of the church’s Women’s League, a member of the church choir with a beautiful voice often singing solos and upon her retirement from Stanley Works, she would often be seen volunteering in the church hall kitchen baking babka and making pierogies for the weekly church sales event. Her love of cooking made sure no one left her home hungry.
She was predeceased in death by her husband Stefan and will be sorely missed by her surviving children Kenneth Perun, Janet Foster and Roman Perun, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wants to thank everyone at St. Lucien’s residence for creating a wonderful and loving environment where she made numerous friendships our family will always cherish.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 29th 9:00 AM at New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT 06053 followed by funeral liturgy at 10:00 AM at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, with Panachyda at 6:00 PM at New Britain Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Lucien’s Residence, 532 Burritt Street, New Britain, CT 06053.
