Lubelia Caravallo Santiago, 78, of New Britain, CT passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023. She was born in Ribeira Seca, Portugal. She moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1965 to join some of her 8 siblings & their families. Soon her beloved husband Gilberto Santiago (predeceased) saw her through the window of her job. Gilberto traveled by bus every weekend from Brooklyn, NY and New Britain, CT to see Lubelia until they married in 1970 and settled in New Britain to start their family. Lubelia was a proud, witty person who made a lasting impression on everyone she knew. She successfully achieved her goal of obtaining the “American Dream” – homeownership - by working at The Hospital for Special Care for 25 years. Family & friends were the center of their lives. They enjoyed traveling to Portugal, Canada, Brooklyn, NY & Providence, RI to remain close with both sides of their families. Lubelia continued to stay in touch with many siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews up until her passing. Lubelia will be sorely missed by her children, Gilberto Santiago, Jr. & his partner, Allison Schwab, and son Edwardo Santiago. Spending time with her grandchildren, David Santiago & Mia Palaia Santiago was her joy. The Santiago Family would like to extend a special thank you to Candida (Candy) Torres for her friendship, love, meals, shopping & support she has shown Lubelia over the years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 9am to 11 am at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, CT 06053. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.
