Mathew Ryan Vaughan, 25, of New Britain, passed away unexpectedly on February 1, 2020. He was born in Waterbury, the loving son of Lynn Gionfriddo of New Britain and Daniel M. Vaughan of Lake Hughes, CA.
Mathew had and incredible gift for art in painting, drawing and creating which was realized from a young age. When he was little, he had so much energy his Mom could not keep up with him. He was best buddies with his sister Danielle and had a beautiful singing voice. He loved building legos, drawing video game characters and creating masterpieces from his bright imagination. He loved spending time with his cousins and spending summers swimming at Aunt Vita’s pool.
At age 7, Mathew started attending St. Paul School in Kensington where he learned and participated in Catholic traditions, which set his strong foundation of kindness, compassion and selflessness. He carried these values with him closely throughout his life. He had many friends, and was so well liked by everyone. He enjoyed being part of the basketball team and practiced karate. Mathew graduated from New Britain High School in 2013 and continued his education at Tunxis Community College in the fine arts program where he achieved his passions. He saw the world through a uniquely focused eye which he applied to everything he created, encompassing so many different mediums from ink, to oil, to acrylic, watercolor and pencil. He loved children, especially his baby cousins who called him Uncle Mathew. It was so easy to smile at all his jokes when spending time with him. Mathew’s family was very proud of him.
Mathew is survived by his mother Lynn and her husband Peter Cortez; his father Daniel; his sister Danielle D’Ambrosio and her husband James of Simsbury; his grandfather, Carmelo Gionfriddo of New Britain; and his beloved aunts, uncles, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Marie Gionfriddo; and grandparents Harry and Cremilyn Vaughan.
