He was born Jan 5, 1932 in Hartford, son of the late Nicholas and Antoinette (Cangelosi) Cecere. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years Beverly Cecere; two sisters, Lucy Senatro and Rose Marie Flis, and two brothers, Salvatore and Thomas Cecere. He leaves behind his three devoted children, Douglas Cecere of Manchester, Lisa Derohanian of South Windsor, and Lynn Cecere of East Hartford; two grandsons, Tyler and Cory Derohanian of South Windsor; brother-in-law Clement(Bud) Senatro and sister-in-law Rose Cecere; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and friend to all.
He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. In earlier years, he worked diligently in family-owned and operated Keney Supermarket on Barbour St., Hartford, before turning to a lifelong career in the insurance industry working for John Hancock, Bankers Life, and Prudential. Nick was a graduate of Weaver High School in Hartford, then onto Springfield College in 1953 where he graduated with a degree in physical education and was a member of his college gymnastic team. Nick spent most of his free time playing tennis, or enjoying cards with the guys and attending his regular Rotary Club of EH meetings, where he was just recently honored with the coveted/cherished Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Award for all his humanitarian and community efforts. He was an avid lover of horses (racing) and a vibrant gentleman with a momentous soul known to all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian will be held on Saturday January 19, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St Patrick Church 110 Main St. Farmington. Please meet directly at church on Saturday. A committal with full military honors will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill. Visitation will be on Friday Jan 18th at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D.
