Regina Koch (née Kapica) died at her home on September 6th, 2021, at the age of 99. She was of German-Polish heritage, as was born on July 23rd, 1922 in Gleisberg, Germany, after which the family moved to Poland. Originally destined for an academic career, her ambitions and family life ended with the Germans invaded Poland in 1939. Regina was sent to a labor camp in Germany, and after the War, she worked for UNRA in the British Sector. She went to Britain in 1947, and worked in a Manchester cotton mill. It was in Manchester that she met and married Ernest A. Koch, a former Polish Army Officer who had served with the Allies in Italy. The US Government offered them passage to America, and the couple settled first in New Britain, and finally in Newington, CT. They were founder members of the new parish of the Holy Spirit, Newington, which was established in 1964. Ernest died in 1975. For over thirty years Regina worked in the offices of the Fafnir Bearing Company, New Britain. All of Regina’s family in Europe predeceased her: both parents, a sister and a brother. Regina’s son, Richard, survives her. Special thanks are due to the Hospital of Central Connecticut, the Utopia Group, Hartford HealthCare Independence at Home, and Hospice for their wonderful professionalism as well as the great care they took of Regina during her final illness. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NewBritainSagarino.com for the Koch family.
