

Russ was the beloved husband to the late Gail Priscilla (Peters) Atkinson. In addition to his parents and late wife Gail, Russ is predeceased by his sister Jayne Kennedy, her daughter Marla, brother Joseph (Joe) Atkinson and brother-in-law William (Bill) Alley. Russ was a proud Navy veteran, serving on the USS DD-699 Waldron, from 1962-1966. Russ was an electrician at Aetna in Hartford. He loved country music, playing pool, classic cars, motorcycles, and old western movies. His passion was pleasing his family and friends with his many talents. Russ will be remembered as the "KING" of husbands, a kind, gentle and compassionate brother, a loving and generous father, and a strong, brave and incredibly brilliant grandfather.
Russ is survived by his sister Gale Alley; his sons: Russell J. Atkinson Jr. and wife Jeanette of Vernon, and Christopher P. Atkinson of East Hartford; his step-daughter Kerry Peters and her husband Jose Raspaldo; and step-son Peter F. Potyrala. Russ (Gramps) is also survived by his grandchildren: Cullen, Jared, Nicole, Kyle, Timothy, Sean, Andrew, and Brandon. Russ was blessed to have three great-grandsons Stiles, Sayer, and newest edition Loukas, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held on April 4, 2022 at 11:45am at The Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
