

Ryszard ‘Rysiek’ Skawinski, 41, of New Britain, passed peacefully on June 8, 2014, comfortably surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born to Maria and Bronislaw Skawinski, October 14, 1972 in Nisko, Poland. Rysiek moved to New Britain in 1992 from Poland and married Tonia Skawinski in 1999.
Rysiek is survived by his wife, Tonia, and his dog, Lucy, who he loved very dearly. Both of them will miss him tremendously. He is also survived by his parents, Maria and Bronislaw, siblings – Stanley, Jozef, Danuta and Janusz, ten nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much, parent-in-laws Luba and Anatoly Tivlukov, as well as his Aunt Sophie – with children Andrew Mroczkowski and Liz Sytulek, and Uncle Stanislaw Dembiak with wife and children in Poland. Rysiek was a devout Catholic and dedicated parishioner of Holy Cross Church in New Britain, where he attended mass weekly.
Rysiek worked in several manufacturing companies, finishing his career at Eastern Plastics in Bristol, CT. He was a hard working and passionate individual who continued to work until his health prevented him. Rysiek was an avid tennis player, as well as spectator, and was a member of several tennis leagues in New Britain. He enjoyed traveling to tournaments including the French and US Open. He continued to go on walks and stay active for as long as he could. Along with tennis, Rysiek was a big fan of the New England Patriots. His other hobbies included fishing, skiing, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
His family wishes to thank the nursing staff of CB2 at Hartford Hospital, along with staff and doctors at the Harry and Helen Grey Cancer Center, including Dr. Timothy Hong. A special thank you to Angelica Hay, APRN.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 4-8pm at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain.
