

Salvatore Gozzo, 76, beloved husband of Sandra (Aparo) Gozzo of Kensington, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 29 surrounded by his loving family. Sal was born on January 21, 1939 in Solarino, Italy to the late Mauro and Carmela (Auteri) Gozzo. Sal moved to the United States in 1958 and established two separate businesses: Sandra Paola Fashions in 1968 and PNG International in 1991. He enjoyed an active retirement working at CWPM, tending to his vast garden, and spending time with family. He was a parishioner of St. Paul Church, Kensington as well as a member of the Generale Ameglio Society and the Italian Political Club.
In addition to his wife, Sandra he is survived and will be dearly missed by his five children: Carmela and husband Scott Williams of Kensington, Paula Gozzo and partner Richard Schneider of Stamford, Mauro and wife Lisa of Wallingford, Patricia and husband Edward Giovannini of Trumbull, and Cynthia and husband Vin Dastoli of Berlin and his nine grandchildren: Alex and Mitchell Williams, Sal and Paul Gozzo, Eddie, Olivia and Juliana Giovannini, and Cenzo and Sal Dastoli. He is also survived by his sisters Concetta and husband Simone Campisi of Berlin, and Salvatrice Calafiore of Solarino, Italy; his brother- in-law Michael Aparo and wife Rosemary of Southington; sister- in-laws Mary Aparo of Berlin and Giuseppina Gozzo of Ragusa, Italy, brother- in-law Pete Barberio of Old Lyme, and his many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his brother Carmelo and his wife Adelma Gozzo of Berlin; brother Gino Gozzo of Solarino Italy; and his sister Maria and husband Salvatore Calafiore of Berlin; and sister-in-law Josephine (Aparo) Barberio.
Sal’s family was the light of his life. He was an avid supporter of their athletic and professional careers. Sal was always present at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was truly their biggest fan. He was also a loyal fan of UConn Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams, never missing a chance to watch the game. His love for his family transcended Connecticut as he relished every opportunity to visit loved ones in Italy, Australia, New Jersey and Washington, DC. His other travels included yearly family vacations to Narragansett, RI and trekking to South Bend, IN to cheer on the Notre Dame Football team.
Sal’s passion for and dedication to his family, friends, and community was tremendous and absolute. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday Feb 3, 2015 at 10:30 AM from the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Church 485 Alling St. Kensington CT. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery Berlin. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday Feb 2nd at the funeral home 444 Farmington Ave. from 4 Pm to 7 PM.
