Simon John Narus, 93, widower of Genevieve Barbara (Januszewski) Narus, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Born in New Britain, he was the middle son of Lithuanian immigrants, Simon and Helen (Kalanta) Narusavicus. He was a lifelong resident of New Britain. As a youth, Simon was a parishioner of St Andrews Church, a predominately Lithuanian parish, and later, with his family, became a member of St Maurice Church. He attended New Britain schools, graduating from what was then called "Trade School", where he learned the trade of tool and die making. During WWII, he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a machinist, and later served in the 89th Mortar Battalion where he fired artillery in combat in Germany. He also served in the 169th Infantry, Connecticut National Guard.
Following his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he began employment as a Tool Maker, culminating in a lengthy career as a Process Planner at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, from which he retired. He also attended Hillyer College, currently known as The University of Hartford. Simon was extremely proud of his Lithuanian ancestry, and especially enjoyed reading about and researching its diverse history. He was an avid stock market trader, enjoyed gardening, and dabbled in oil painting.
Simon was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, who passed in Nov. 2012, as well as his older brother, John Narus of Boston, MA and younger brother, Robert A. Narus of Newington. Following the passing of his wife, he became a resident of the Arbor Rose community in New Britain.
Simon is survived by three sons: James Narus and wife Grace of Charlotte, NC; Robert Narus and wife Barbara of Florham Park, NJ; Edward Narus of S. Glastonbury; and daughter Jane Narus-Piera and husband Steven of Farmington; his seven grandchildren: Michael Narus; Amy Howard and husband Jack; Ryan and Jeffery Narus; and Christine, Steven and Carolyn Piera; as well as two great grandchildren, William and Emerson Howard.
