Stanislaw Targonski, age 86, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones by his side the evening of Saturday, February 19, 2022. He maintained his good humor and remarkable personality until his very last breath. Stanislaw will be remembered as a true family man, people-person, and the rock of the Targonski family. He was surrounded with so much love in his final days because he put so much love out into the world. He always saw the best in people, was humble, generous and filled with gratitude. Until the very end, he maintained that his family was his greatest legacy, and his dying wish was for his family to remain strong, united and to always love and care for one another.
Stanislaw was born in his family home in the small village of Grabowo Stare in northeastern Poland on November 9, 1935 to the late Antoni Targonski and Aleksandra (Faszczewska) Targonski. He grew up to be a proud farmer and sawmill worker, and to serve his community by acting as the village “sołtys” for many years. He met the love of his life, Aniela (Grabowska) Targonski, in a neighboring village, married and helped raise their three children in his family home.
Stanislaw made New Britain, Connecticut, his second home over the last 37 years. After settling in New Britain, Stanislaw enjoyed working as a skilled machinist in various factories in Central Connecticut until well into his 70’s. He was also a very religious man and an active member of his parish, Sacred Heart Church. Stanislaw’s hobbies and passions included smoking meats and making kielbasa for his family and friends, mastering the art of distilling high-quality spirits, vegetable gardening and spending quality time with his family and friends. He also never forgot his home in Poland, and enjoyed traveling there frequently.
Stanislaw was a beautiful man – inside and out. Words are not enough to describe how he has touched so many lives and how greatly he will be missed.
Stanislaw leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Aniela; his daughter Lila Czarnowska and her husband Andrzej; his son Krzysztof Targonski and his wife Agnes; his daughter Bogumila Januszczyk and her husband Andrzej; his granddaughter Aneta Gurtowsky and her husband Nathan; his grandson Marcin Czarnowski; his granddaughter Katarzyna Julmisse and her husband Martin; his granddaughter Joanna Targonski and her husband Mateusz Zyla; his granddaughter Justina Targonski; his granddaughter Victoria Targonski; his granddaughter Emily Januszczyk; his grandson Paul Januszczyk; his grandson Michael Januszczyk; his four great-grandchildren, Evan Gurtowsky, Brayden Czarnowski, Daniel Julmisse and David Julmisse; his sisters Anna Targonska and Krystyna Truskolawska; his sister-in-law Teresa Czyzewska; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and a host of friends he called family through the years. Stanislaw joins his parents, 6 siblings (the late Teofil, Piotr, Boleslaw, Marianna, Jozefa and Aleksander), his son-in-law Witold Czarnowski, and many additional close and extended family members and friends in Heaven, where we all hope to one day meet again.
