Stanislwa Majewska, one of four Klajda children, was born on August 18, 1933 in Miłków, Poland. Unfortunate WWII circumstances didn’t allow her to have normal childhood and she recalled her moments of terror of being a cute little girl smuggling leaflets in her basket hidden under any kind of fruit, or getting midnight knocks at their door when German were looking for fugitives. Right after the war, she was anxious to study, to be somebody and to teach. Every day Stanisława and her brothers Jan, Marian and Kazimierz walked over 5 kilometers to school, to learn and make their parents proud. Stanislawa completed a trade school program and after finishing accelerated teaching classes, chose to follow her new love Zbigniew, and become a teacher. She worked beside Zbigniew in Strzyżów, Poland in the grammar school for over 35 years. When they started a family, the four children Maria, Leszek, Andrzej and Artur needed Stanisława’s undivided attention, but she managed it all and even kept on working and adding additional duties, since money was in short supply. In the afternoons she was in charge of the village public library, and still would take in season inspection jobs at the sugar factory, farm a little field designated for teachers, have chickens, sometimes other animals, to have enough wholesome and healthy food. She was an expert knitter and seamstress, so the kids never lacked clothes, socks, gloves, scarves, hats and mittens. During all those years she was dedicated to the local children and their families as well, advocating for and helping them with all sorts of hardships and despair, since she knew everyone in the surrounding towns and villages through school activities and library programs, Stanisława was able to earn Master Degree in Education even during these demanding years and make everyone proud.
Life didn’t spare her sadness and sorrow either. Stanisława lost her 36 year old son, Andrew, in horrific circumstances, which weighed on her decision to come to America and be closer to their children, Maria and Leszek, who had been living here already since early 1970s. As her husband Zbigniew, Stanisława arrived in CT in 1996. Not wanting to be a financial burden on anyone and as very proud people, both Stanisława and Zbigniew chose to work at the local manufacturing firm of Rowley Spring and Stamping Corp. long enough to be able to qualify for Social Security retirement benefits. They were members of Polish parish community at Saint Stanislaus Church and attended many local Polish community events. Stanisława didn’t get to enjoy her retirement for long. She was diagnosed with Levy Body dementia in 2013 and lived a very debilitating life right from the start of her retirement. Meanwhile, she endured another loss, a sudden death of their youngest son Artur and realization that her husband succumbed into dementia. The happiest times were with family. As a mom and a grandma, later a great grandma, she was very happy to be able to share in all family moments and ecstatic to hold babies and hand them toys, attending graduations, dancing grandparents’ dances at grandsons’ weddings, witnessing and honoring her granddaughter Sabrina becoming an officer of the United State Marine Corps, celebrating their 50th and 60th Anniversaries. Stanisława was full of life and it was very difficult for her to leave this world. She passed at home, early morning on September 28th, 2020 after a long battle with Dementia. R.I.P. Mamusiu. Babciu i Prababciu.
Stanisława followed Zbigniew, her spouse of 70 years, who departed on September 20, 2020. She leaves behind her youngest brother Kazimierz Klajda and his wife Danuta, daughter Maria Hurczyn and son-in-law Janusz, son Leszek Majewski, daughters-in-law Anna Majewska and Barbara Majewska, grandchildren, Michael Hurczyn and Heather, Andrew Hurczyn and Courtney, Sabrina Kelly and Cullin, Jakub Majewski and Katarzyna, Marta Majewska and Leszek Ochałek, Tomasz Majewski and Justyna Kołodziejczyk and Sylwia Majewska, greatgrandchildren: Isabella and John, Addison, Pola, Iga and Tymon and Micalean.
Gdy smutek boli a słowa zbyt małe by rozpacz wypowiedzieć, zostaje tylko milczenie pełne goracych łez i bliskość osieroconych serc.
