Born in Wola Żelichowska, Poland, Ziggy immigrated to the United States, first settling in Indian Orchard, Massachusetts in 1965, before making New Britain his home in 1967.
He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church in New Britain and rarely missed a Mass until his declining health made attendance difficult.
Ziggy worked at Caval Tool for 34 years before joining New Britain General Hospital, where he worked for 14 years until his retirement. He took great pride in being a hardworking man with a strong work ethic, values he proudly passed on to his children and grandchildren. He embodied the American dream and dedicated his life to providing a better life for his family than the one he had known; instilling that education was the foundation for success.
When needed, Ziggy supported many family members from Poland by sponsoring their visits to America, opening his home to them, and helping them find employment as they built new lives in America.
Anyone who knew Ziggy knew where to find him on Saturday evenings: at Haller Post for the weekly Polish dances (zabawy). He was full of life and truly the life of the party. Ziggy loved to laugh, dance, and crack the occasional inappropriate joke.
He is survived by his son, Robert Kaczowka of New Haven; his daughter, Dorothy Sokolowski and her husband, Andrzej, of Plantsville; his grandchildren, whom were his pride and joy, Adam, Steven, Kasia, and Joy; his brother, Franciszek Kaczowka and his wife, Alicja, of Wola Żelichowska, Poland; as well as many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Poland.
Our family would like to thank Ziggy’s home caregivers for the exceptional, respectful care they provided. Their kindness, patience, and support brought comfort not only to Ziggy but also to our entire family during this difficult time and we will always be grateful.
Ziggy will be remembered for his strong faith, tireless work ethic, quick wit and larger than life presence any time he walked into a room.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, August 28th from 4-7 pm at New Britain Memorial- Sagarino Funeral Home on 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain. Ziggy's funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 158 Broad Street, New Britain, on Saturday, August 29th at 10 am. Friends and family are invited to gather at New Britain Memorial Funeral Home at 8:30 that morning before Mass to process together to the church.
