Al, 
Today marks the sad day of your family losing you. I sometimes wonder what you were thinking at all those loud family gatherings as you sat there and listened to us. 
What a valuable lesson you taught me… the importance of being a listener and the grace of staying quiet even when you may want to shout out a difference of opinion.
Mom was like you in that way. Nancy was like that too. All gifted in being listeners in a world full of talkers and look at me people. 
I think of all three of you and I am heart broken.  I am trying to find glimmers of beauty and grace in everyday things to honor you all and so that the valuable lessons you taught me will not be wasted. 
I will love and miss you all terribly every day of my life until the end of time. Tamsen 

Whether it was his quiet reserve, kindness or all around good nature, Al was more than just my eldest male cousin to look up to and admire. We could talk  baseball, football or the Sopranos and  it was always an easy, lighthearted conversation. When I first became a baseball fan and asked if he’d be willing to part with his baseball cards (or the pennants on his wall!) he gladly said “yes.” When he became the first of my cousins to enlist in the United States Navy, we were more than proud and happy for him.  Any family function was never complete without his quiet, steady  presence. Cousin Al was always about the positive things in life and I will miss him. 

Uncle Al,
 
You were my only Uncle. You were always generous and kind. I never once saw you loose your cool. You always had a gentle and accepting smile on your face. You knew how to keep the conversation light. When I think back on my childhood my mind always goes to Christmas, and Sundays at Grandmas house surrounded by our family in a house filled with laughter and family banter.  Being around you and having family get togethers made it feel like those holidays every time we were all together. I will miss your laughter, gentle smile and your thoughtful presence in our family.  

Al Witt, a quiet man. His eyes always reflected his smile.  Rest In Peace. 

My condolences to the Witt family. Al and I were grade school and Jr high friends. My memories of those fun times bring a big smile to me. I thank you Al for your friendship and may God hold you gently.

Al was never much for words, but with the smile and the look on his face I just wanted to be where he was.   Kind, sensitive to all the women in his world and a great soul.  God puts these people in our lives to pause and think about what’s more important in the moment.  Thank You Al.   Every time your images comes to my mind it will bring a smile to my face.

Al was my brother and friend, he was an easy-going spirit, and a wonderful person to live with.  He never complained about anything including my cooking, and there have been some questionable meals.  He would always make it a point to thank me for cooking.   We enjoyed our movie nights together, Sunday brunch and preparing for family gathering.  He can count on me for keeping his memory alive and well. No one could have asked for a better brother then Al, he was the BEST.  God has him in his arms, I have you in my heart.   I will miss Al more the words can say.  



My brother Al was a quiet kindhearted man who believed in family. He enjoyed movies, usually historical accounts of world events past as well as a good belly laughing comedy. He enjoyed working on his Jeep, yard work, our family gatherings and an occasional trip to the casinos. He wasn’t big on in-depth conversation or debating an issue but when he had something to say it was short and to the point and usually right on target which would always make me chuckle and bring a smile to my face. I love him and will miss him terribly. 

I knew Al for many years as a brother in law.  He was always kind and jovial.  He loved sports especially baseball.  Al ‘s kind spirit will be missed by all.  Clarkstown was lucky to have him as their DPW employee for so many years.  And his family was most lucky.   Rest In Peace Al

Al was a very kind son, brother and uncle. He was always very welcoming and made us feel at home on our visits to New York. One memory that makes me smile: we had brought Emily to visit and dressed her up in a pink Red Sox dress, knowing it would be a friendly rivalry laugh for Al and Gramps’, lifelong fans of the Yankees. We smile every time we come across the picture where Al had a good humored smile on his face as he held her. 
My heart goes out to you as you say goodbye to him. May the lifelong memories help to heal your hearts. 

I’ve known Al for over 50 years, met him the first time I went to pick up his sister, Alyse for our first date.  The first “hippie I “ type “ ever, I was met with wide eyes; all but Al.  He walked over and shook my hand and said hi!  That was Al.  Kind to all, judgmental of none.  Over the years Al and all the family became my family and happily still are although, sadly smaller. I’ll have the memories of all the wiffleball games and barbecue’s always and he will always be in my prayers.

My fondest memories of Al were those around the dinner table and in his favorite chair. Never a negative comment, always happy to talk about sports and movies on the History Channel, and his pleasures of his cameras and watches. His company will be missed, but confident he is resting and among family watching down on us all.

Uncle Al was always a gentle, calm presence at family gatherings. He will be remembered for his love of music, talking sports, his love of Jeeps, and his easy going, thoughtful manner. Uncle Al was always approachable and always kind. He will be missed.

Uncle Al,
As a child I remember spending many happy hours in the basement of Bellows Lane playing pool with you. You were so good at it and always were happy to teach us. Now as I reflect back over the years I realize that you taught me a lot more. How to be in the moment and not worry about the past or the future, to be happy with simple pleasures like watching the game on TV or digging into a great steak and potato. How to laugh and not take life so seriously and to be a good listener. There is no memory I have of a family get together that you were not there. You were a kind and quiet presence in our life - a touch stone that is gone and it will be so hard not have you with us. This Christmas I sat at the dinner table and watched you really enjoy Marie’s dinner and my Mom’s wine. I had some of the wine and thought it a bit past it’s prime but I noticed you really liked it. I thought for a moment that maybe you didn’t care if it had turned because you loved it since it was my mother’s and that you were drinking it to her and it made me happy. I know you are with her now.

Traveling to New City each year growing up made many lasting memories.  Some of the most fun and vivid were setting up the elaborate train set at Christmas time with Uncle Al and also watching countless movies together.  Whenever I see a references to Pete's Dragon, or Never Ending Story I always think of New City and Uncle Al.  We miss you!` 

Our love and sympathy to a wonderful family, who honored,  respected and cared deeply for Al throughout his life.  May his gentle soul rest in peace. 

We as kids loved going to our cousins house and playing.  I will always remember the outside pool get togethers and playing pool in the basement.  We had so many great memories as a family.  You will be missed.  Sincere condolences to the family.  You are in our thoughts and prayers.  ❤🙏

Al was not only a great guy but my cousin.  Indeed, he was a quiet and kind gentleman who enjoyed sports--especially baseball.  He would also give you the proverbial shirt off his back. As kids, he made the mistake of showing my brother and I his  baseball memorabilia.  When we expressed that we liked certain items, he simply gave them to us without hesitation.  

I also recall, many years ago,  one of his neighbor's,  a young man, who had developmental issues. Al  always made it a point to invite him back to the house, make him feel comfortable, hang out and play pool with him.  These are just a few memories, of many, that sums up Al's character. I will certainly miss him at the annual "Witt-Ober Fest." Rest well.
