

Formerly of New City, NY passed away peacefully on April 17, 2017 at her home in Naples, Florida, where she had resided since 2014.
Audry was born on June 26, 1930 and raised in South Orange, New Jersey. She was a dedicated and loving daughter to Marie and Frank Melkowitz. Audry attended grammer and high school in Newark NJ and then went on to the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ and was in the graduating class of 1952. she then attended Seton Hall University and went on to obtain her Master’s Degree from Cornell University.
Audry taught for 31 years in the Newark Public Schools. She shared many fond memories and stories about her students who always requested Ms. Melkowitz as their homeroom teacher. Audry was also a talented seamstress and made most of her clothes and matching accessories. She also crocheted, knitted and could make anything out of nothing. She was an avid baker, a talent she inherited from her Mother.
Audry loved to travel. She also spent many summers with her girlfriends at the Jersey Shore. Audry loved the Theatre, Opera and Ballet and would dash into New York to watch a performance with her best friend Claire.
Audry married Richard Steven Kravarik 33 years ago and joined him in traveling around the USA and visiting and attending civil war antique gun shows. She also started to collect colts from the civil war era.
When not travelling, Audry spent hours with her beloved dogs and would never miss the Westminster Kennel Club dog show.
Audry was a very devout Catholic and never missed mass until these last few months because of lack of mobility.
Audry will be greatly missed by her beloved husband Richard. Her extended family Natalie, Owen, Nolan, Lisa and Rolf Thorsen. Joseph and Carolyn DeMarco, Audry’s God Child Betsy Repka and husband Paul, his mother Olga Repka and their children Phillip and Mark and his wife Emily . Also, Josephine and Richie Martishek, Sue Schirmann, Daniel and Janice Zanini and their children. Audry also loved visiting with Maddalena and Rocco Rosano and their family at home and abroad.
Visiting will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Wednesday, April 26 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Augustine Church in New City followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rahway, NJ.
