Barbara Kowalski, passed away on August 22, 2019, after 2 years of battling cancer. Born in Brooklyn on Nov. 17, 1942, to Raymond and Jean Lipinski. She grew up in Brooklyn and is survived by her two devoted sisters, Elaine Abatemarco (Tony) and Debbie Mastellone. She graduated from Bay Ridge High school in Brooklyn. Barbara married the love of her life Paul J. Kowalski on September 2,1962. She worked in Manhattan until moving to Rockland County in 1966. Barbara was an Entrepreneur and ran her own business “Active Auto Cool” for over 20 years. She was creative beyond compare; always crocheting gifts, designing jewelry and capturing beauty through painting. As an avid Mets and Jets fan, Barbara always shared her enthusiasm with those around her, especially her grandchildren.
The most important thing to Barbara, was her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their children Paul (Janis), Ronald (Christine) and Sharon O’ Reilly (John). Barbara was always involved in her children’s lives as well as her 10 grandchildren, Paul, Sabrina & Nicholas Kowalski, Michael, Jack & Kenny Kowalski and Joseph, Olivia, Jenna & Tommy O’Reilly. Assisting in the upbringing of her grandchildren resulted in timeless memories. They LOVED going to Nana & Papas house for Hotdog Wednesdays, sleepovers, and Mahjong; always having fun, food and lots of laughter together. She was their number one fan at every occasion. Faith, family and love were at the utmost importance to Barbara. She was always ready and eager to plan a party. From Christmas, to July 4th,to Halloween and more, there were endless traditions, costumes and fun rituals. Barbara was constantly giving, and she will be remembered for her generous heart, her great smile and most importantly, the way she made you feel.
Services will be held 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Monday 8/26 and 9am Tuesday 8/27 at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City NY. A funeral is scheduled for 10:00am Tuesday 8/27 at Saint Francis Parish West Nyack, NY. Interment will follow at Fred Locher Cemetery.
