Barbara W. Simpson

Barbara Simpson of Highland, NY, 89 years old, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Simpson and son Paul Simpson. She is also survived by three grandchildren (Samantha Hernandez, Paul Simpson Jr, and Stephanie Van Buren [William]) and six great grandchildren (Sianna Hernandez, Sean Hernandez, Alyanna Cioto, Hazel Van Buren, Billie Van Buren, and Levi Van Buren). She was predeceased in death by her son, Peter in 1989. She additionally had many close cousins and friends she enjoyed spending time with.

She cherished her time spent with family attending concerts, festivals, school plays, and sporting events to cheer on her grandchildren. She also very much enjoyed time with her animals (Misty, Daisy, and Straymond) and feeding the birds in her front yard.

Barbara was born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Theron and Emma Wurster on May 13, 1935. Barbara raised her three children while working full time, and then assisted in caring for her grandchildren and great children while their parents worked. She retired from St. Cabrini’s home as a counselor for at-risk youth in 1996, however decided that she was not “old enough” to be retired and became a part time daycare worker at the Cinnamon Tree in Poughkeepsie until 2020.

The family will be holding a private event to share and honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, Barbara would have wanted a donation to your local animal shelter in her name.
