Brendan John Bjorkback passed away peacefully on February 25, 2022. He was 42
years old and lived in Nanuet, NY. He is survived by his parents, Susan, and Peter
Sarantapoulas, one brother, James, and partner, Jordan, from Winter Springs, FL, sister
Dionne from Middletown, NY, sister Lisa, and her husband, Balo, from Lakewood, CA,
grandparents, Elizabeth, and Joseph Peto, from Johnsburg, IL. He is also survived by
many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
One of Brendan's absolute favorite things to do was to travel to North Carolina every
year to visit his Uncle David and Aunt Sandy. They would go Durham Bulls games,
bowling, Frankie's Fun World for go karts and video games, the Life & Science
Museum, rock shows, Elmo's Diner, Parker & Otis, Red Lobster and many other
restaurants, parties and weddings at people's houses, and of course, superhero movies.
He would also travel to Arkansas to visit with his Aunt Diane, and cousins, as well as to
California to see his sister, Lisa, and her husband, Balo. He also enjoyed his weekends
with sister Dionne and going to his favorite restaurant, Smashburger.
Brendan graduated from BOCES in 2001 and resided in the Tennyson Group Home.
While living there, he made many good friends, among them Joseph and Frank.
Everybody in his life who knew him will miss him. When Brendan was first diagnosed
with Cornelia de Lange syndrome, our family was told that he most likely would not live
beyond his teens. He turned 42 last November. He beat the odds and had an amazing
life. Every day we had with him was a gift. We are grieving, but we're also celebrating
Brendan's life - a life that was extremely well lived. Have some pizza or a burger or
popcorn shrimp in his honor, or anything you like, really - every kind of food was his
favorite. Brendan would always say "It's not gonna be the same without me around"
and it certainly won't.
