

Catherine L. Fisher passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2017, surrounded by her loving husband, John and her four devoted and loving children. Kate was born in New York City on March 2, 1934 to Barbara and Frederick Lyons.
She is predeceased by her mother, Barbara and Frederick Lyons, sisters, Barbara Weinmiller and Teresea Guerin, nephews Ronald Weinmiller and Gerard Fisher and niece Barbara Weinmiller-Ciarcia.
Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John and her four loving children; John P. Fisher (Patricia Cannon Fisher), Susan O’Keefe (Michael), Cathy Nassivera (John) and Judy Macalena (Daniel), her 13 grandchildren: Andrea Fisher Wooster (Chris) Kaitlyn Fisher Altoff (Bobby), Kate O’Keefe, Keri Fisher, Cassandra Hackett (Brendan), Christopher O’Keefe, Kelsey Fisher, John Nassivera, Brianne Maddalena (Vinny), Patrick O’Keefe, Daniel Macalena, John Fisher and Michelle Macalena and 7 great grandchildren: Jack, Drew, Nolan, Shane, Zachary, Madelyn and Brendan.
Kate was a longtime resident of New City after moving from the Bronx, NY in 1966, where she dedicated herself to raising her family, her life’s purpose. As the heart of the Fisher Family, her unwavering selflessness, humor and deep appreciation for life are attributes that will remain with every member of her family and friends.
Bringing Kate her greatest happiness was weekly Sunday dinners with family, trips to Orlando and many vacations to visit relatives in Ireland. Kate also enjoyed attending the many events and ballgames of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kate graduated St. Adalbert’s Roman Catholic School and Cathedral High School in 1952. Kate retired in 1998 from the New York City Board of Education after 25 years as an Office Manager. In New City, Kate was an active member of the community for 60 years. A parishioner at St. Augustine’s Church, she volunteered with the religious education office and served as a member of Catholic Big Sisters. She volunteered with youth suffering with Cystic Fibrosis and worked at Clarkstown High School. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting for her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.
Family will receive friends on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9Pm at Higgins Funeral Home New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday 10AM at St. Augustine Church New City, NY. Interment to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery Rockland Lake, NY.
