Daniel P. Moran (Danny) of New City, NY, 71 years old, passed away at home on August 5, 2020 after a brave battle fighting ALS. He was born November 28, 1948 to Edward and Tessie Moran. Danny grew up in Inwood N.Y.
He proudly served in the United States Army, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He became a steamfitter for Local 638 in New York City. Danny met the love of his life, Peggy (Levi), in December 1970 and married in 1972. They moved to New City, N.Y. in 1980 to raise their 4 children. In his spare time, Danny volunteered as a Pop Warner coach for New City Rams for over 14 years, influencing his players both on and off the field. He was a proud member of the American Legion as well. Danny was a family man, spending time with loved ones in Cooperstown, their annual ski trips to Tully, visiting close friends and family for vacation, and more recently Ortley Beach. Danny was an avid sports fan, even though his beloved Mets, Jets and Rangers brought much disappointment. Danny loved life and made friends everywhere he went. So much so, that he earned the title as the unofficial mayor of Ortley Beach. His most precious times were spent with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. Being their Poppy was his most favorite role.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and his children: Kristi (Ray Fogarty), Danny (Kaitlin), Kieran (Kelli), and Michael. His six grandchildren Johnny, Kieran, Daniel, Aiden, Fiona, and Lily. He is also survived by his siblings: Eddie and Maureen Moran, Mary and John Moylan, Bobby and Kathleen Moran, and Jackie Moran, his in-laws: Michael and Sue Levi, Pat and Ron Apel, and Rick Levi and by so many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends that were considered family. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Patrick Moran.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 9th from 3p.m. – 7p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, August 10th 11:15a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack followed by interment at St. Anthony’s cemetery in Nanuet.
