David P. Plaisted passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2013. He was born and raised in Piermont, NY and was a longtime resident of Pearl River, NY. During the 1930s, he ferried people across the Hudson River from Sneden's Landing to Dobbs Ferry, worked as an auto mechanic, and later helped construct Camp Shanks in Orangeburg, NY. He went on to become a Palisades Interstate Park policeman at Nyack Beach State Park and Bear Mountain. David was an avid fisherman and golfer, and loved spending his time outdoors. He enjoyed many of his retirement years in Forked River, NJ and Port St. Lucie, Fla. before returning to Rockland County, NY. He celebrated his 101st birthday on October 11, 2012.
David is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Mahoney) Plaisted. He is survived by his daughter Renee Ruderman, and her husband Robert, of Pearl River; his granddaughter Kim Casey, and her husband Dan, of Pearl River; his great-grandsons Aidan and Colin Casey; and nephews Mark, Robert, and Drew Ciganek. He appreciated the kind friendship of Suzanne Newell.
A graveside service will take place at Rockland Cemetery on Tuesday, February 26 at 12 Noon.
