Dong Chull was predeceased in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Young Hi.
He is survived by his son, two daughters, and son-in-law (David, Sandi, Jeanne, and Rob). He is also survived by four grandchildren (Katie, Augie, Becca, and Carmela).
Dong Chull was born in Yeongcheon, South Korea to Nam Kim and Ho Kyung Choe on May 3, 1937. He attended Kyungpook National University School of Medicine in Daegu and immigrated to the United States in 1964 where he completed his residency. Dr. Choe worked as a psychiatrist throughout the NY area and had a long and fulfilling career. He would not have been able to achieve his career without the unwavering support of his wife – an accomplished pianist in her youth – who was the bedrock of the family.
Dong Chull loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, playing “Go” (Baduk) with his friends, reading, World War II movies, and listening to opera. And like his wife, he was also a talented musician in his youth – a singer and violinist.
A funeral mass and burial will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 11 AM at Ascension Chapel and Cemetery at 650 Saddle River Road in Airmont, NY.
