

Doris A. McCool, of Pearl River, NY said her last goodbyes at the Joe Raso Hospice Facility in New City, NY at the age of 79. Doris was born in Rockwood, TN to Mabel and David Dillard. Upon entering the 8th grade her family moved to Valley Cottage. She later went on to marry her husband, Edward, in 1959 and settle in Nanuet, NY. She remained there until her retirement when she decided to continue her “Golden Years” in Barefoot Bay, FL where she enjoyed many years until ill health brought her back to New York. Doris spent her early married years as a loving housewife and devoted mother. Later, she went on to work for the Rockland County Medical Society. She was an avid reader who enjoyed mysteries and the guilty pleasure of an occasional “Harlequin” Romance. A love of travel resulted in many memorable trips to Europe. Doris was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW. Doris is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Edward, who passed away in March, her son Rick in 1983, and her sister, Frances, in 1991. She is survived by her daughter Andrea McGarvey and her husband Michael who she considered her second son; granddaughters Casey and Kirsten who lovingly referred to her as “Nana.” She is also survived by a grandson, Justin. Doris’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to those involved in her care including Clarkstown Medical Associates, the Friedwald Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, and the staff of Nyack Hospital. Viewing will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, Sunday, April 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 16, St. Aedan’s Church, Pearl River with burial to follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet.
