Dorothy V. Holly

Dorothy V. Holly passed peacefully into the hands of God surrounded by her loving family on August 11, 2015. She was 100 years young. A devout Catholic, avid reader and gifted storyteller, Dorothy truly had a zest for life. Since her early summers in Rockaway Beach, Dorothy was always quick to have a dance, share a laugh or sing a song with family and friends. For decades, her wonderful spirit and sense of humor have brought joy to those who were lucky enough to have known her. Dorothy was born on October 27, 1914 in New York City to Daniel and Catherine Driscoll (nee Duffy) and grew up in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. She married the love of her life, Marcy Holly on August 27, 1938 and together they raised their family in the Inwood section of Manhattan. They would eventually settle in Rockland County, but Dorothy always remained a city girl at heart. She is survived by her children, Edward (Ann) Holly and Geraldine (William Neary) and MaryJeanne Holly of Stony Point; her Grandchildren, Renee (Joseph Lavelli), Marie (Thomas McNamara), Kathleen, (Thomas Gannon), Jeanne (Brian Mullen), Michael Neary (Ann Marie), William Neary (Ruth) and James; her Great Grandchildren, Holly, Mikaela, Tara, Rebecca, Kelcie, Edward, Liam, Connor, Matthew and Daniel; her sister Veronica Feeney and many beloved nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, her husband Marcy and sons, Daniel, Maurice and James, her Granddaughter Lisa Holly and her twelve brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at St. Gregory Barbarigo in Garnerville at 9:45am. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm- 9:00pm at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home Main Street, New City, NY.
