Elizabeth Weir passed away peacefully in Valley Cottage on Friday, November 26, 2010 after family members had spent several days by her side. Elizabeth was born on October 1, 1921 in New York City, and as a four-year old established herself as a local celebrity and accomplished dancer, performing for thousands on radio and in theater. Beginning in kindergarten, Elizabeth had an exclusively Ursaline education, culminating with a business degree from the College of New Rochelle, where she was engaged in many activities, including sorority life. While at college, "Liz" established many friendships that would last her lifetime. Shortly after graduating, she met Jack Weir, romance blossomed, and they were wed in 1946. Elizabeth demonstrated her devotion to Jack when he was in the military, driving cross-country with her baby daughter to be with him. After raising a family on Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx, Elizabeth and Jack moved to Yonkers, New York.
Elizabeth had a long and successful career managing the books for an advertising agency in New York City. She enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad, and was an avid New York Yankee fan, but was happiest being with her family. Elizabeth is survived by her three devoted children and their families, including six grand-daughters. Earlier this month, Elizabeth lovingly held in her arms Charlotte Rose, her first great-grandchild.
The family of Elizabeth will receive visitors on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10am at St. Paul's Church in Congers. Burial will follow at the Cemetery of the Gate of Heaven in Hawthorne, New York. Arrangements under the direction of Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., New City, NY.
