Erasmo De Jesus 75, passed away peacefully where he wanted to be, at home surrounded and cared for by his loving family. He bravely battled prostate cancer for over 8 years until he was called to Heaven on Christmas Eve.
Born November 25,1938, in Hato Viejo, Puerto Rico he was the son of the late Santiago and Maria De Jesus and brother of Francisco, Santiago, Juan, Ana, and Hortencia.
Erasmo loved his family, hard work, cars and good food. He considered himself the “living legend” and was a big fan of World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He moved to the United States at a tender age of 18 looking for a better life under the guidance of his brother Santiago. He loved his many cars and often spoke about the various classic cars he owned throughout his lifetime.
He had many jobs including being a New York City taxi driver. However, he spent the majority of his life working as a marble polisher and he knew his granites, marbles and stones like the back of his hand. He took a lot of pride in being able to cut, polish and repair them. He enjoyed and appreciated the overall hard work it took to transform them from a rough stone to a beautiful and exquisite piece of furniture, floor or artwork.
Erasmo’s greatest accomplishment in life was instilling the importance of family and hard work in his children and grandchildren. He was not afraid of hard work and did what he needed to take care of his family. His hands were small but for the majority of his life they were also rough, full of calluses, broken and bruised nails; a testament of his hard work. He rarely expressed his feelings but through his actions you knew he cared. His shiny green eyes spoke volumes when words could not.
Erasmo is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Lourdes Crespo-Ruiz and children; Wendy (Steve), Lourdes (Shameed), and Magdia and his grandchildren Janelle, Christina, Thomas, Christopher and Makayla.
The "Living Legend" will always live on in our hearts......
