Ernest Schmidt

Ernest Schmidt, 81, of Congers, NY passed away December 31, 2010 at his home after a long illness with his family by his side. Ernie was born in the Bronx on December 8, 1929 to Ernest and Elsie Schmidt and grew up in Edgewater Park. He married Anita Nilsson in 1957 and they moved to Congers, NY in 1968 to raise their family. Among his favorite past times, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as well as walking around Rockland Lake. He was also a member of the Pearl River Elks Club and The American Legion for many years. He was employed by the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. for 42 years. Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Anita; his sons, William Schmidt of Congers and Edward Schmidt of Stony Point; his daughter, Susan Mahoney of Stony Point. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Beth Schmidt; son-in-law, Daniel Mahoney; and five granddaughters, Julia and Emily Schmidt, Amanda, Katie and Maggie Mahoney, all from Stony Point. Services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY on Tuesday January 4, from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will be on Wednesday January 5 at Gethsemane Cemetery in Rockland Lake at 11AM.
