

grandfather passed away from coronavirus at age 72. Eugene was born in New York City on
September 27th, 1947 to Ralph Russell and Catherine Josephine (McCarthy) Head. He is
survived by his wife Ellen and his three sons Dean (Denise) Head of Culpeper, VA; Eugene Jr.
(Teresa) Head of Colorado Springs, CO and Peter (Ashley) Head of Sloatsburg, NY. He is also
survived by six grandchildren Chiara, Everest, Cassandra, Heather, Jillian and Nathan. He was
predeceased by his parents.
He grew up in The Bronx, NY and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School. He met
and married his wife of 52 years Ellen at Church of the Holy Nativity in the Bronx. He served as
a corpsman in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War and
earned the Air Force Commendation Medal.
He received a BA degree in Physical Anthropology from Herbert H. Lehman College
(CUNY) Bronx, NY. Then Eugene earned an MBA from Pace University in New York City. He
worked as a Systems Analyst at Xerox for 20 years. After leaving Xerox he earned an AAS in
nursing from Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY and a BSN from NYU in New York
City. Eugene was now able to pursue his passion for nursing while working at Helen Hayes
Hospital, NYP Hudson Valley Hospital, Sing Sing Correctional Facility and the Robert E. Yaeger
Rockland County health facility.
Eugene was a lifelong Episcopalian and was very active at Trinity Episcopal Church in
Garnerville, NY as Senior Warden and Acolyte Master. In recent years he attended Christ
Episcopal Church of Ramapo in Suffern, NY and served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was
also a member of David B. Roche Volunteer Fire Company having served on their first scuba
diving team. In 1983 he became a Freemason. He attained the rank of 3rd degree, Knight
Templar, Royal Arch, Cryptic Mason and Shriner. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. of
Haverstraw. Finally he enjoyed photography, scuba diving and amateur (ham) radio.
A funeral mass and burial will take place in the future after pandemic lockdowns are
lifted.
