Eugene John McCarthy

Eugene McCarthy, proud Kerry man, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2013. Gene was born on the 19th of May, 1941 in Keelballylahive, Castlegregory, Co. Kerry, Ireland to Eugene and Mary (O'Connor) McCarthy. Eugene emigrated to America in 1960, and shortly thereafter opened the bar The Rose of Killarney in Washington Heights, NY, which he took immense pride in operating for over 40 years. He married Mary Joyce McCarthy in 1971, and the two were blessed with three sons.

Gene is survived by his wife, sons Eugene, John (Irene), Brian (Jennifer) and grandchildren John, Terrence, Eugene and Fiona. He was predeceased by his brother Patrick and will be greatly missed by his surviving sister Mary (Michael) O'Sullivan, and his brother James as well as numerous nieces and nephews around the world.

Calling hours will be Sunday, April 7th 2-4pm and 7-10pm. Monday April 8, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at MICHAEL J. HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME, Congers, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Augustine's Church Tuesday, April 9th at 11am. Private cremation ceremony to follow.
