Eugenio "Gene" Fernandez, 72, of Congers, NY, died on October 23, 2010 with his family by his side. Gene was born April 25, 1938 in Spain to Eugenio and Maria Fernandez and came to the United States in 1958 starting out in Bronx, NY. He married Hortensia Alverez on October 9, 1960 in NYC and then moved to Congers in 1966. Eugenio owned and operated Gentl Construction Co. for many years and was well respected in his field. Eugenio was a devoted father and grandfather, lived for his wife, children and grandchildren, was always there to lend a helping hand and was a very generous person. Besides his wife of 50 years, Hortensia; Gene is survived by his sons, Eugene (Debra) of Hauppauge, NY, Anthony of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter Linda Fernandez of Congers, nine grandchildren, and a sister Tina (Manola) of Spain. The family will receive friends on Tuesday and Wednesday from 5-9PM at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10AM in St. Paul's RC Church in Congers. In lieu of flowers the family request's donations in Eugneio's name be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
