Frances C. Cosseboom

Frances (Fran) C. Cosseboom, 88, passed away from natural causes on January 26, 2022. She was born on April 24, 1933 in Mount Vernon, NY to Frank and Mary (Licursi) Capparelli. She grew up in Mount Vernon, NY and graduated with honors from St. Gabriel’s High School, New Rochelle. Subsequently, she worked at Esso where she met and married the love of her life, Frank Cosseboom, and later settled in New City, NY where they raised their three children. She loved reading, bowling, singing, playing cards, building jigsaw puzzles, playing along with Jeopardy, celebrating birthdays and holidays, vacationing in Cape Cod, and spending time with her family and friends. While raising her family, she attended college and graduated magna cum laude from Dominican College, Orangeburg, NY. She taught at St. Paul School in Valley Cottage, NY where her students lovingly referred to her as Mrs. C. She later changed her career to social work and was employed by the County of Rockland where she enjoyed helping people until she retired.

She and Frank were happily married for 55 years until his passing in 2011. She was a kind, loving and giving woman who faced life’s challenges with extraordinary grace and dignity. As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she loved nurturing and feeding her family. She instilled many core values and wonderful family traditions now carried on by multiple generations.

Fran is survived by her children Jeff (Gail) of New City, Barbara Smith (Bob Moncello) of New City, and Mary Jo (Bill) Hughes of Cornwall on Hudson, NY; her step-grandson Joseph Moncello; her granddaughters, Andrea (Luigi) Liotta, Lauren, Katie, Val, Annie and Julia; and her great grandsons, Harry and Bobby Liotta and one more baby Liotta on the way. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews and great nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband, Frank, she is pre-deceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Capparelli, and her siblings, James Capparelli, Terry (Ed) Jones, and Gloria (DJ) Sansone.

Visitation will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY from 3-7pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Funeral mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at St. Augustine Church in New City, NY, followed by a flower ceremony outside the church.
