Frances Mary Landi was born in New York City in May of 1925, the third child of Nicholas and Anna Macchia. She spent her childhood in Harlem with her siblings: Robert, Christina, Angelo, Mary, Arthur, and Anthony. Eventually, France’s eldest sister Letizia immigrated from Italy, and the Macchia family in New York was complete.
After high school graduation, Frances worked as a secretary for the United States War Department in an Army Field office in Brooklyn, New York during WWII. After the war ended, she continued to work as a secretary for a private company.
On a hot July day in 1946, Frances married George Landi in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Soon after Frances and George started their family with the birth of Roberta and George Jr. Later, Frances and George moved to the Bronx where they welcomed 4 more children into their family: Francine, Jerome, Andrew and Theresa. After the passing of her husband George, Frances continued to live in the Bronx until she found her way to Rockland County, where she continued to thrive in her senior living residence.
In her 101 years of life, Frances touched everyone who knew her, especially her 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She always found joy in the life that God had given her, no matter what blows life dealt her. Her resilience and faith are her legacy to all who loved her.
