

George A. Niebour of New City, NY passed away on May 2, 2013. George was born February 23, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY to George L. and Marjorie P. (Staveley) Niebour. George served in the US Navy from 1946-48 as a hospital corpsman. He graduated from NYU in 1952 where he met his wife of 52 years, Betty, who predeceased him in 2006.
George was employed by IBM for 32 years as an internal accountant and systems analyst. He and his wife, Betty always worked as a team in their personal lives; as Sunday School and youth fellowship teachers, working and volunteering at the Jr. High library, taking art classes together, but especially enjoying going to concerts or sporting events for their wonderful grandchildren. George served as treasurer for the Park Evangelical Free Church for many years and also for the Martinus Hogenkamp Cemetery Association. George sang in church choirs for over 50 years and always enjoyed the fellowship. He was a stamp and coin collector and enjoyed painting.
George is survived by his sons, Paul (Lynn) of Monroe, Thomas of New City, and Peter of Melbourne, FL; George's beloved grandchildren, Rachel and husband Casey of Schenectady, NY, Julianne of Sarasota, FL, Lauren of Boston, MA, John of New City, and Emily of Monroe, NY; his sister, Carol Caucci and husband Patrick of Grant, AL; his brother-in-law, Edward Rosmarin of AZ and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that have helped dad over the last several years. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 5 from 2-5 PM at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St., New City, NY 10956. A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, May 6th at 11:00 AM at Park Evangelical Free Church, New City. Burial will take place at a later date at Martinus Hogenkamp Cemetery, New City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park Evangelical Free Church, 4 Roosevelt Place, New City, NY 10956.
