Gloria R. Amen, 88, a resident of New City, NY, for over 55 years, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was a devoted wife, caring mother and grandmother, homemaker and volunteer who cherished her family and faith. Born Gloria Radice, she grew up in the Bronx and graduated from Evander Childs High School where she met and married the love of her life, Andrew Amen. Gloria worked in Manhattan for the New York State Social Services Division before leaving the work force to raise her children. She volunteered at Woodglen Elementary School and ARC of Rockland.
Gloria, known as Nana, enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Gloria enjoyed hosting dinner parties for friends and family and would always say “nothing is too much trouble if it turns out the way it should.”
Gloria also relished decorating the family home and would occupy her free time adorning her beautiful house with items new and old. One of Gloria’s favorite pastimes was surveying antique stores, a skill she learned from her mother, who was also a master decorator. She had a very keen eye and would find beauty and value in items passed on by others. Most of all she cherished the time she spent with Andrew, her children and her grandchildren. Her husband Andrew of 65 years died March 22, 2019.
Gloria was born on November 21, 1930 to James and Francis Radice (Maurno). Lifelong Yankee fans, Gloria and Andrew married in 1954 at the Concourse Plaza Hotel in the Bronx and began their endearing love story. Gloria and Andrew were always at each other’s side. Andy was Gloria’s hero, and she spoke constantly of the happy life they shared together. Andy and Gloria proudly raised two caring and grateful children and nurtured their two loving grandsons, who were their pride and joy. The highlight of each year was Gloria and Andy’s Christmas Eve dinner that featured Nana’s famous lobster fra diavolo, a meticulously crafted antipasto platter, baked whole belly clams and seared scallops and shrimp with vinegar peppers, which were paired with the latest Beaujolais nouveau.
Gloria is predeceased by her husband Andrew and survived by her daughter Lori and her son James (Barbara) of Greenwich, CT, and her grandsons James II (Katie) of Brooklyn, NY and Daniel of Santa Monica, CA. Gloria was predeceased by her brothers Anthony Radice, Louis Radice, and Daniel Radice.
Nana, we love you so much. In our hearts you will always be. Your love and smile are forever imprinted in our minds.
