of the Lord on August 14, 2022 at the age of 102. Her final hours were at home in the
company of family.
Helen was born January 21, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, the fourth and youngest child
of Nicholas and Virginia (Makowski) Frick. She moved to New York City and married
Bernard Porcaro in 1943. They moved to Bardonia in 1958 where they continued to
raise their family of four sons. Helen, just like her late husband, was a loving,
devoted parent as well as a phenomenally hard worker. She worked as a highly
skilled legal secretary, primarily for the firm Jacobson and Jacobson in New City, NY,
from her early 40s while still raising a family, and continuing to the age of 80, all the
while maintaining a finely kept and comfortable home.
A lifelong Roman Catholic, Helen was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi
parish in West Nyack, NY. She enjoyed, above all, time and involvement with her
dear family. She proudly cooked authentic Italian recipes learned from her mother-
in-law. All who knew Helen saw her delight in her unfailingly tasteful and
coordinated clothing.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph of Connecticut, James and his wife Ikuko of
Toyama, Japan, Richard and his wife Laurie of New York, and Robert and his wife
Julia of Massachusetts.
She was predeceased by her husband Bernard, son Joseph's wife Ann, and grandson
Matthew's wife Alissa.
Helen is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Joseph
and Ann's daughter Maura (husband Louis Martin, their son Sean) and son Matthew
(daughters Brynn, Megan, and Sarah), James and Ikuko's daughter Hiromi, Richard
and Laurie's sons Richard (wife Andrea, their sons Benjamin and Dominic, and
daughter Alexandra) and John (wife Susan, their son Anthony and daughter
Giuliana), and Robert and Julia's son Mark (wife Nicole, their son Damian) and
daughter Stefanie. And there are many nieces, nephews, and extended family
members.
Helen Porcaro led a remarkably long, blessed, and meaningful life, heeding the call
of God, and contributing immeasurably to the lives of others.
Visitation hours are at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, NY,
on Thursday, August 18, 2022, 3:00 p.m - 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass is at St. Francis
of Assisi Church, 128 Parrot Road, West Nyack, NY on Friday, August 19, 11:15 a.m.,
and burial thereafter is at St. Anthony Cemetery, 36 West Nyack Road, Nanuet, NY.
