James F. Cooney Jr.

Jim was born May 20, 1934 in Providence, RI to James F. Cooney Sr. and Lillian M. (Conboy). He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict with the United States Air Force and was honorably discharges with the rank of Staff Sgt. Jim worked in Labor relations for 33 years with NYNEX now known as Verizon. He was a founding member and Parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church and served as Eucharistic Minister, Religious Education Volunteer, Youth Group Volunteer. In earlier years he was an Eagle Scout and Altar Server. Jim was a member of the American Legion, Providence College Alumni Association, and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree knight. He enjoyed Golfing and was a starter at Captains Golf Course. Jim also enjoyed spending time in Brewster and Cape Cod, Ma for over 20 years. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Diane (Bastien) Cooney, 5 Children: Kathleen (Patrick) O’Connell, Daniel, Diane (Shawn) Fenton, Michael, Patrick (Jennifer); 9 grandchildren: Alison, Kaitlyn, Erin, Shawn, Patrick, Mark, Joseph, Megan and Deirdre. Jim was predeceased by his infant son James in 1963.

Family will receive friends on Thursday 7-9pm and Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm at The Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home 321 South Main Street New City, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Saturday 9:45am at St. Francis of Assisi Church West Nyack, NY. Burial will be private.
