James Fortugno passed away at Nyack Hospital on June 17, 2012. He was 88 years old. James was born in Bronx, NY on April 20, 1924 to Alfonso and Conchetina (Fava) Fortugno. He lived in Yorktown Heights for 20 years, prior from Bronx, NY. He worked as a detective for the NYC Housing Police Department for 25 years and retired in 1982. He served with the Army/Air Corps during WWII in the European Theater of Operations. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Tina Fortugno of Nanuet, son James and his wife Elizabeth of New City, NY, and 3 grandchildren James III, Jason Thomas, and Jenna Claudia. James was predeceased by his wife, Claudia in January 2012, and his brother Joseph. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, 11:30am, at St. Augustine’s Church followed by interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Putnam Valley, NY.
