Jim served in the Army in the 38th Field Artillery at Fort Lewis from 1955-57 and remained in the Army Reserve until 1963. He married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Jean Snyder in 1958 and soon after moved to New City, NY. Jim dedicated over 25 years to a well-known family business, Cropsey Farm, where he worked alongside all 5 of his children. In retirement, Jim loved keeping current with reading multiple newspapers, painting, birdwatching and spending time with his family. He never asked for anything and appreciated everything. Life was simple; a cold beer, the newspaper and chocolate chip cookies. His appreciation for the simple things in life will continue to keep our family grounded in what matters most, family.
Jim is survived by his children, Jim Murtha of Queen Creek, AZ, Amy Murtha of San Francisco, CA, John Murtha of River Edge, NJ and Megan Scarpelli of New City, NY. He was loved by his 12 grandchildren and predeceased by his loving wife, Jean Murtha, daughter, Marybeth Murtha and grandson Matthew Nematz.
Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, June 25th, 2020 at St. Augustine’s Church in New City, NY at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Operation Connection: The iPad Project https://www.lunchwithlynch.com/kindness
