James J. Tierney Sr.

James (Jim) Tierney Sr. of Valley Cottage passed away on June 1, 2013. Jim was born on November 19, 1935 to James P. Tierney of County Fermanagh, Ireland and Katherine Tierney (nee Sullivan) of County Kerry, Ireland. He was born and raised in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx and was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School. Jim is survived by his brother Edward and sister-in-law Barbara (nee Good) as well as his children Lisa (nee Tierney) and Michael Kolesar, James and Susan (nee Reilly) Tierney, and Christine (nee Tierney) and Peter Zinna. Jim is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Michael, Liane, Lori, Catherine, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Timothy, James and Thomas.

Jim proudly served his country in the US National Guard followed by a 20 year career in the New York City Police Department. After his retirement from NYPD, Jim worked as a security manager for Time Inc. An avid sports fan, devout Giants and Yankees fan, Jim attended many sporting events including Super Bowl, World Series, All-Star Games, Army football and hockey games and the Olympics. He also enjoyed attending the opera, reading and traveling. Jim will be missed by all who knew him.

Family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 6-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, 11:30am, at St. Paul's Church, Congers, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Road, New City, NY 10956.
