

John was raised in Bondsville, MA. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and earned his doctorate in chemistry from Yale University. In 1958, he began his career as a Senior Pharmaceutical Research Chemist at Lederle Laboratories. During his over 40-year career he invented hundreds of pharmaceuticals for a wide range of health conditions. John was the primary inventor for the sleep sedative Sonata.
John married Patricia in 1959. They were happily married for 58 years. John was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Dahlia Society and enjoyed 12 years on the Nanuet School Board where he also served as President. John was an active parishioner of The Church of St. Anthony in Nanuet, NY.
John is survived by his wife Patricia of Nanuet, NY; and his six children: Ann of East Greenbush, NY; Jane of Great Barrington, MA; John and Yvette of Warren, NJ; Katie and John Duke of W. Nyack, NY; Sheila and Michael Toto of Feeding Hills, MA; and Stephen and Tina of Louisville, KY; his seven grandchildren Trevor Stanhope, Jeremy Stanhope, John Jay Dusza, Nina Dusza, Caroline Toto, Thomas Dusza and Ryan Dusza; his sister Mary Jane Stec of Westfield, MA; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
John was preceded in death by his mother Emily and father John S. Dusza.
A funeral mass to celebrate John’s life will be held October 21, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of St. Anthony in Nanuet, NY.
