

John J. McGuinness, 86, of Nanuet passed away at home on Saturday, April 7, 2012 on his 61st wedding anniversary. He was born on February 7, 1926 in Yonkers to Joseph A. and Anne H. (Byrne) McGuinness. Jack graduated from Gorton High School and New York University. He was a World War II veteran, serving for two years on a PT boat with the US Navy in Pacific combat, including the battle of Leyte Gulf. He married the former Florence Sullivan of Yonkers, New York on April 7, 1951. He retired from the New York Telephone Company after 40 years of service. His family was his life. He is survived by his wife Florence and his four children, daughter Kate and husband Mark Wilcox, of Philadelphia, PA, sons, Ed and wife Peggy of Pearl River, Joe and wife Cynthia of New City, and Jack and wife Jeanine of Bethesda, MD as well as 12 grandchildren, Tom, Anne & Elizabeth Wilcox, Eddie, Kelly & Shannon McGuinness, Megan, Patrick & Conor McGuinness, and John, Sheila & Bridget McGuinness, predeceased by brother Ed McGuinness and sister Dorothy Demers. Family may receive friends on Monday from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, 10am, St. Anthony’s Church, Nanuet, NY, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
