He was born on February 7, 1970, in Chester, Pennsylvania to Sandra and John Farmer. He graduated from North Kansas City High School and started working as a caterer. During that time he developed his life-long love of cooking and fine dining.
He loved to entertain his friends and family. He met his loving husband, John Ade, in Kansas City on June 5, 1991, and together they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where Johnnie began a career in educational publishing at Holt, Rinehart & Winston. When they moved to New City in 2001, Johnnie worked in the editorial group at Pearson Education.
In 2012, on the twenty-first anniversary of the day they first met, Johnnie and John were married in their home.
Johnnie had an excellent eye for detail and a deep love of fashion. He and John joined the Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack where Johnnie helped with costumes on several productions.
Johnnie was never happier than when he was helping others. He was cherished by many and reminded us all of the importance of love and friendship. He will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by John, his husband and partner of 27 years; his mother, Sandra Harding; his stepfather, Kevin Harding; his brothers TJ and Kevin; and by the many members of his extended family, most of whom lovingly called him their “Aunt Johnnie.”
Visitation will be held this Saturday, December 15 from 3-5 pm at the Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street in New City, followed by a brief memorial service.
Memorial donations in Johnnie’s honor may be made to the Rockland County Pride Center.
