Born on January 21, 1929 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mr. Quiñones came to New York in the 1950's. He was married to Juanita Quiñones for over 60 years before she was called to be with the Lord in 2010. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Quiñones, who was legally blind and hearing impaired, attended the Jewish Guild for the Blind in NYC, where he became self-sufficient. He never let any of his handicaps or his limited command of the English language keep him from taking care of his family and spreading the Word of God.
Christ was the center of his life. In addition to teaching Sunday school for many years, Mr. Quiñones was a street preacher in New York City. He visited the sick and encouraged the disheartened at hospitals and prisons, where he shared God's love. As Director of the Calvary Crusaders, he traveled to the Dominican Republic to help build a church that remains in existence today. He was also regarded as a spiritual elder at Risen King Church in New City.
He is survived by his children — Charles Carver; Raquel DaCosta; Maria Vergez; Frank Quiñones; Ralph Quiñones; and Emily Guerrero — as well 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Known for his generosity, kindness, and sense of humor, Mr. Quiñones was a blessing to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate that he is now at peace with his creator.
Prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Wednesday he will be entombed at Garden of Memories in NJ.
