

Joseph (Joe) C. O’Neill, age 77, of Holmes, NY passed away peacefully on January 21st, 2023. Joe was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 24th, 1945 to Bryan and Agnes (Becker) O’Neill. He attended New York City public schools growing up. Joe was a central figure in the lives of his parents and admired by his three brothers. Joe was a loyal and active member of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Iron Workers Local 40 of New York City.
Joe possessed a remarkable work ethic and was a skilled welder. He dedicated his career to the Local 40 Union for 43 years. Joe was proud of his contribution and commitment to building and repairing New York City’s bridges and structures, which improved the safety and quality of life for so many residents and travelers.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Bryan and Agnes, his brothers Bryan and James, and his infant sister Agnes. He is survived by his brother Robert (Susan) and will be dearly missed by his niece Katherine. Joe is also survived by his extended family and cherished lifelong friends.
Joe had a fond appreciation for fine craftsmanship and antiques. He found pleasure in discovering the history behind every item and he always had a unique story to share for each one. Joe enjoyed collaborating with new friends and colleagues who shared this similar interest. He also had a love of horses, having raised and cared for several of his own over the years. An avid outdoorsman, Joe made many special memories over the years with his buddies from the “Bent Barrel Hunting Club”. These hobbies brought Joe much joy throughout his retirement.
Joe was known for his infectious laugh, sense of humor, and charm. He will be fondly remembered as a warm and caring individual who had a natural gift for conversing with everyone he met. Joe will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family will receive friends at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Thursday, January 26th, 2023 at from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27th at 11:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY.
