
Joseph was a member of the Greatest Generation having served honorably in the US Army in World War II and then in the Korean War.
Joseph was a life member and past commander of Kearsing Edwards American Legion Post 1600. Past commander for Rockland County American Legion. He served as department commander aid to (3) NY State American Legion Commander’s. Served the 9th District of NY American Legion as Sergeant At Arms. Also served on the committee of the Hudson Valley Heath Care System advisory council for over 14 years, at the castle Point VA. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans, Member of the 25th Infantry Assoc, and Nanuet II Seniors Club, who Joseph called his Second Family.
After retiring from Clarkston Central School district at age 80. He loved to travel, take cruises with family and friends, going to AC with friends (John & Pat Mauro), taking day trips with the Senior Club.
Joseph is Survived by his loving wife, best friend, and dancing partner Lorraine (Gallagher) Vitulli. Son Joseph (Susan) Vitulli Pomona NY, daughter Joyce (Richard) Buchheit Newburg NY, (3) Stepsons William (Jillian) Gallagher New City NY, Kenneth Gallagher Nanuet NY, Michael Watson Nanuet NY, (7) Grandchildren Tiffany (Skala) Seachrist, Amanda Buchheit, Richard Buchheit. Jospeh Vitulli, William (Megan) Gallagher, Jordan (Zoe) Gallagher, Britney Gallagher. Blessed with (5) great grandchildren Ryan, Breanna, Joseph, Zayn, and Isabella. (2) Brothers Michael Vitulli & Ruby Vitulli Woodhull NY. (1) Sister in law Sandra Shiver Midland City AL. Many nieces and nephews.
Joe and Lorraine made many happy wonderful memories over their 33yrs together, which she will always cherish. Joe leaves us all with treasured memories of a fun loving, hardworking, and helping person the he was.
Joe’s last words were “I love you, my family and Friends” and asked God to watch over all of us and keep us all safe and well.
Family will receive friends on Friday 4pm-7pm at Higgins in New City. Burial and graveside service with military service will be held Saturday at Fred Loesher Cemetery.
